About Applied Social Studies
This programme is aimed at those who are currently working in or wish to develop careers in the social care sector and allied fields. The programme is officially recognised by all major social care sector employers including the Health Service Executive (HSE).
About this Programme
The programme is composed of an exciting collection of applied social scientific modules including:
- Professional studies
- Psychology
- Sociology
- Law
- Policy studies (social, political and economic issues)
- Creative studies (art and drama)
- Communicative studies
- Computing and personal development.
Placement:
Students will also undertake two supervised work placements (13 weeks or equivalent) during the course of the programme.
After You Graduate
Graduates of the programme have secured employment with a range of statutory and voluntary organisations in the social care sector. Graduates of the programme may be considered for admission to the BA (Hons) in Applied Social Care (Level 8 ) programme at IT Sligo or other institutions.
Entry Requirements
Applicants under 23 years require Leaving Certificate (5 Grade D’s) or equivalent. Applicants over 23 must have effective verbal and written communication skills and will be assessed on their suitability for the programme based on appropriate personal and intellectual qualities to train as a social
care professional.
Applicants may also be required to take part in an interview and all applicants will be required to undergo a Garda
vetting process.
Award: Level 7
Duration: 4 years
Fees: Year 1: €1,800, Year 2: €1,800, Year 3: €2,400, Year 4: €2,400 (€300 per 5-credit module, €600 for placement)
Application Deadline: 3 September 2010
Delivery: Classroom – Mon & Wed, 6.00/7.00pm – 10.00pm. Attendance at a number of Sat workshops will also be necessary (10.00am – 5.00pm).
